The Characters
Henri Moneague:
Wealthy secret son of Henry Morgan and the mulatto Genevieve De Guy, slave sympathizer and adventurer. He gambled for high stakes in a period and a place when it was easy to lose and losers are lost forever.
Jolene:
His beautiful live in lover, who was also a lady of the high seas. They shared a bond and a love for each other rarely seen in those times or any other.
Edwin Collie:
English politician who weaseled his way into Jamaica hell bent on making his own fortune at anyone’s expense. Crown and all…
Moses Chatsworth:
Preacher, slaver sympathizer, fortune hunter. He was playing on both sides of the fence. Soon he might have to choose… God or Gold.
Lord William Westford.
Convinced the crown that Collie and others were playing hanky panky with the crown’s fortunes in Jamaica, he came (Carte Blanche) to see if it was true. On the surface ha came as an emissary, but in reality he came with his own agenda, to root out the slave sympathizers, and set himself up as Governor and/or Lord Protector. Perhaps even king.
Matthias: Spiritual Leader of the Rastarians: They were black, a peaceful people who lived in self imposed isolation. It was said that they were descendants from the lost continent of Atlantis, where inhabitants could perform unusual feats, such as levitation, fire walking clairvoyance, mediumship and all kinds of activities, just beyond human reality.
Karmel:
Part Ashanti Part Rastarian. He was side kick of Moneague and the force behind the “Underground Road” the path by which slaves escaped into freedom. As part Rastarian he too possessed some of the unusual powers.
The sunken treasures of a dozen or so Spanish Galleons protected by Morgan’s Curse and sorcery became a focus of Collie, Weston and others along with control of the island’s rich resources including slave trade.
Greed and lust for power would bring them together in a bitter struggle for dominance or survival. The story begins about April 1694. It came to a halt on the fateful Sunday morning of June 7th when one of the worst earthquake in recorded history brought Port Royal to its knees, along with the dreamers, the schemers and everything else in between. There was little or no time to prepare mind, body or soul.
